While I was visiting family in Northern California for Thanksgiving, My dad and I made a quick trip to San Francisco. One of the places we visited while there was Mission Dolores. It is the oldest intact building in San Francisco. It was very interesting and very beautiful. I’ve been to the city quite a few times, but never to the Mission, so I’m glad we decided to make the visit.
Our most recent assignment was to make a self-promotional piece for whatever type of photography we want to go into professionally. I currently don’t know what I want to do, so I decided to give food photography a try. The yummy cupcakes are from The Sweet Tooth Fairy bakery.
Here’s my first go at it:
Here’s a quick photo of some Indian corn that I saw in the corn maze at the pumpkin patch that we took our kids to.
Our photography department took a trip to Eureka, UT, a small town that has its history in gold and silver mining. Even though most of the shops on Main Street are no longer open, one of the owners was nice enough to unlock the door to his building that was full of old nick-knacks and let us photograph.
Below are my images of Wooden Nickels, Old License Plates, and Old Pepsi Cola Glass Soda-pop Bottles:
All three of my kids have had some interest in what I do with photography so I try to involve them when I can. I’ve taken them to the darkroom to see how traditional photo developing and printing is done. More recently I took my oldest daughter, Laurel, who is 7, and gave her my Digital SLR camera to shoot with. Because the camera was so heavy she used a tripod and would tell me where to set it and then I’d loosen the tripod head and then let her compose and click the shutter. So, here’s one of her images that I really liked:
I’ve driven past the salt flats many times on my way to and from California, but I’ve never bothered to stop and take a look. Recently I made a special trip out to the salt flats just for the purpose of photographing them. I had a great time and I’m pretty happy with my images.
We recently got back from a camping trip in southern Utah that some close friends invited us on. The area is filled with mountains and rock formations that are amazing reds and oranges. We camped in Calf Creek and took day trips to Devils Garden and Capital Reef. We all had a great time hiking around this beautiful part of the country. Here are just a few of the many photos I took:
Our Nature Photography class took a camping trip to Great Basin National Park in Nevada to… you guessed it, take pictures. We did some night/star photography, we took a tour of the caves there, and did some hiking before dawn and just before sunset so that we could photograph in the sweet light/golden hour, etc. Here are just a few of the pics I took.
I’ve been taking so many macro photos lately that I decided to point my camera up a little more. Here are a few shots that I took of some gorgeous skies. The two images with clouds are taken at sunset and the one with the moon at sunrise.
I’m taking a nature photography class durring summer term at Brigham Young University (BYU). So far a lot of my images have been macro (closeup) shots of wildflowers. Here’s a few of my favorites:
